DescriptionThis sub-series contains correspondence received by Valentine Oppé from a wide range of family, friends and acquaintences. Dating between 1908-1950, the letters cover her life immediately prior to her marriage to Paul Oppé and continue up until her death in early 1951. They contain a wide variety of matters relating to Valentine's private life, social engagements, and her interest in the arts, particularly classical and choral music. Also included are letters concerning various family matters, both those relating to her husband and children, as well as her extended families, both Oppé and Tollemache. Beyond this, many letters also discuss and reflect matters of broader social significance in Britian during this period, in particular, the First and Second World War.

The correspondence in this sub-series was originally kept in date order, but it was rearranged during cataloguing for ease of access. As such, it was re-ordered alphabetically by correspondent. Where there are 6 or more letters from an individual, these have been given their own file (titled by the name of the correspondee). Where there are 5 letters or less from an individual, these have been filed into the appropriate miscellaneous file according to surname.
