Admin/Biog HistoryDr. Oskar Fischel was an associate professor of art history at the University of Berlin who had written several volumes on Raphael's drawings. He and Oppé planned to collaborate on a book building on research they had both been engaged with on the subject of Rapheal's cartoons. (see APO/1/12/6 for more material relating to this collaboration)
DescriptionThis file contains thirty letters from Fischel concerning his and Oppé's shared research interests in the works of Raphael. Also included are two replies from Oppé, dated 4 & 23 Nov 1938, and various proof-reading notes. Most letters are in German, although some have been translated into English.

Also included are thirty-three letters, dated between 25 Feb 1938-20 Feb 1939 concerning to Oppé's attempts to, and eventual success in, helping Fischel to leave Berlin to live in England. Correspondents include:
