| Description | The records in this series concern general research undertaken by Constable. The files relate to, and have been arranged into, six categories according to the following subjects:
-biographical information about Wilson himself
-aspects of life including, in particular art and artists, in Italy & England from the Middle Ages to the 18th Century
-influences of artists on Wilson and of Wilson's influence on other artists
-sales including works by Wilson
-sources (original and published) consulted during the course of research
-research notes on particular subjects (such as patrons; exhibitions).
The majority of files contain research notes made by Constable from a variety of published and original sources. They also include his corrsepondence with colleagues; dealers and owners; photocopies and transcripts of original material held in other repositories; exhibition catalogues; as well as photocopies and offprints of articles and publications. The titles of the files are exactly as they were named by Constable. |
